Ceremony Rituals
These special rituals will make your ceremony even more memorable.
Many ceremonies are traditional, follow a series of standard steps and leave little room to personalize. If you really want to make your ceremony your own, incorporate a ritual that is meaningful to you. Some may resonate more then others. However you choose to signify unity on your wedding day, let the following provide some inspiration.
Light a Unity Candle
This well known tradition symbolizes the coming together of two individuals. The couple each hold a lit candle and combine their flames to light a third larger one. Sometimes their parents will do this to symbolize the blending of the two families.
Sand Ceremony
In a blending of the sands ceremony the couple each pour a small container of different colour sand into a larger decorative vessel to signify their coming together as a couple. You may consider using sand from a favourite vacation or your hometown.
Handfasting
Handfasting or the tying of the hands together is an ancient Celtic practice. The couple hold opposite hands (so their arms make a figure eight which signifies eternity) and then their hands are bound together with ribbon to symbolize the union. Consider using an antique ribbon or fabric or a family heirloom a special meaning.
